Jeremiah Wright = McCain's affair/affairs (my prediction is that neither side will bite on either of these)

other pastors = Hagee/the other crazy pastor

Rezko = Keating 5/other sleazy lobbyists

Ayers = McCain's ties to mobsters and G. Gordon Liddy

Argula/bitter = $500 loafers/not knowing how many homes you own

Race card = POW card

Anything else?

Keating 5 ad (none / 0)

needs to be up the moment McCain launches that Rezko ad. It's completely fair, McCain was actually formally admonished by an ethics committee for his role in the engagement while Obama engaged in an admittedly boneheaded, but legal real estate transaction.

McCain's actions were also "admittedly boneheaded, but legal." He was admonished not for doing anything wrong but for "bad judgment" in having the appearance of impropriety. The investigators were careful to say that he violated no laws and no rules of the Senate. McCain has publicly said he regrets his involvement in the affair.

I don't want to see this in an ad for precisely that reason--it's as much of a non-story as Rezko, and just as they shouldn't play guilt-by-association with Rezko, we shouldn't touch this. And just because they're going there, doesn't mean we should.

I'd love if the media had some balls, though. They should be pointing out these parallels and taking McCain to task for his hypocrisy.

Obama had bad judgment in getting involved with the Rezko deal, even though in the end it was shown to be perfectly legal--it had the appearance of not being clean, and Obama admits he shouldn't have done it (in fact, he's the one who called it a "boneheaded move").

That doesn't mean his judgment is bad, it means he judged that situation badly. The same applies to McCain and the Keating Five scandal.

I just don't feel comfortable calling it a detestable smear to continue linking Obama to Rezko in one breath, then calling for an ad linking McCain to Keating in the next, since the situations were really so similar. "But they're doing it!" is no defense.
